Peaches are low in calories and one 100 g peach provides almost three quarters of the daily vitamin C requirement. The fruit has a gentle laxative effect. Peaches are also rich in iron and potassium. Peaches already rank high in some types of phytochemicals. They have good to excellent antioxidant activity, some antimicrobial activity, potential for use as a natural food colorant, and good to excellent tumor growth inhibition activity. History of peaches
"Prunus persica", the scientific name of the peach, suggests that peaches came from Persia, but China is actually the peach's original home. Peaches were originally from an area near the city of Xian, China. They were cultivated in China at least 3,000 years ago. Wild peaches, called "Maotao" or "Yietao", still grow in remote areas of China. Peaches spread to Russia and Persia (present-day Iran) probably because Chinese traders dropped peach pits along their trade routes. Alexander the Great and his armies found the peaches in Persia and brought them to Greece. Most Europeans assumed that peaches came from Persia. Throughout the next centuries, peaches were spread all over Europe. The Spanish brought peaches to America.
Today, the peach is grown in at least 64 countries worldwide. The U.S. produces about 20% of the world's peaches
I like to have dried fruit in my cereal for both flavor and fiber. With my previous order - my first from you - I decided to try several different items. All were excellent in taste and packaged well. (My main problem is I can't find my second pound of peaches...saw them and put them up...where I don't know!) I ordered these items for myself, but obviously willing to share with my husband though. At first he wasn't interested. Then decided to try the peaches first, then the apricots, then the cherries. He was absolutely delighted with the apricots and cherries, and has even resorted to the cranberries since I've run out of the other items. Personally, I was more than satisfied with all of the items I purchased or I wouldn't be ordering again...much less so soon. In fact, to afford these I'm going to have to discipline myself not to eat too much! So I just want to thank you for your commitment to quality products. I'm feeling better since including them in my diet.
